My Aces Cracked
Let me give you a quick scenario…I was playing in one of those drunk donkey home games one night. You know what I’m talking about…play every drawing hand, push with ace-rags, and somehow justify playing 2-3 suited. Everything has implied odds right? Then when someone hits those magical draws, they break down in drunk giggling.
Anyway, I don’t play that way. In fact, I was trying to play solid poker. In this hand I was in late position and looked down to see “bullets” Ac-Ah. I raised about 3x BB. Now keep in mind I’m the only one to ever raise in this game so needless to say after a while, no one cared. I had 2 callers, 1 UTG and one next to her. Flop comes 5X-9C-QC. Now, the UTG calls my raise pre flop then with the flop she goes all in!!! Next player folds and the action is up to me. Now what sucks the most but at the same time the decision making is over….I can’t out play her since I’m in position, I can’t make her pay for her draws, just can’t do much of anything period. I decide to call since I’ve been playing tight against their loose tactics….I figured she hit her kings on the flop and even decided that she may have two pair since they played anything with a face card. She flips over K-10c’s and has a flush draw and nut straight flush draw….She hits she gets a low club on the turn to give her the flush but I need one more runner to hit my nut flush!!! And guess what!!! I hit it!! Oh boy, did I get it…J of clubs on the river to give me the nut flush but give her the straight flush!!!
Did she play her hand right? I wouldn’t play it that way myself, but I think in that situation the chips were going in the middle no matter what. So, can the “Bullets” be dodged? Can “American Airlines” be grounded? Or can “Pocket Rockets” be kept from taking off? Sure they can. Really, in the end they are only just “top pair” which is at the bottom of the list of possible winning hands. Make sure you play them that way.
