Aussie Millions Action Packed on Day 1 and 2
Tuesday, January 17th, 2012 by Nadia
Day 1 and 2 of the Aussie Millions Opening Event recorded a considerably large number of entries. The prize pool for the event was $1 million. The field had a total of 946 players. The number of survivors on Day 1c was 66. Total 132 players hit the tables in the Aussie Millions Opening Event.
Saturday’s Event Played in Repechage Format
The field size for Saturday was quite large. The key reason behind many players registering for the event is its ‘repechage’ format. It gave the option to players, who were eliminated in Day 1a and Day 1b, to re-enter the tournament. Quite a few players made multiple attempts to re-enter Day 2 of the event. Some of them are Sorel Mizzi, Simon Watt, Daniel Kelly and Daniel Nielson. However, even after multiple attempts these players could not make it to the second day.
Action on Day 1c
The action was not very fast-paced on Day 1c. Only after the major part of the day was over, could the chip leader be determined. Jay Kinkade raced up the leaderboard. The player is well-known for his magnificent performances in online tournaments.
One of the key hands played by Kinkade was the one where he flopped trip nines. The cards he held in the hand were 10x and 9x. The player got the entire value of his opponent who held 5x and 5x. Kinkade remained the chip leader for the most part of the day.
Towards the days’ end, the action at the same table heated up. Both Rob Angood and Tony Delavinias had accumulated a large number of chips and offered stiff competition to each other. In the second half of the day, David Yan had the second largest number of chips.
Delavinias accumulated more chips as the day progressed. The player had Ax and Kx when his opponent had Kx and Kx. The player managed to spike an ace in this hand. Due to these actions in this hand, Delavinias completed Day 1c as the chip leader.
Day 2 Ended with 10 Players
The 2012 Aussie Millions Opening Event worth $1,000 came to an end with 10 players. The second day also featured a ‘repechage’ format. It gave opportunity to players eliminated in previous sessions to re-enter the tournament. The final table was led by Scott Wilson. He took home about 2.628 million. His main competitor was Bredon Rubie, who played a few good hands.
Day 1a had around 274 participants. A total of 251 players participated on Day 1b. The number increased further on Day 1c. It had around 421 entries. Day 2 was started off by 132 players. All competed to be in the top 81 and grab a share of the prize pool. However, few could make it to the final table. Some of the players who got eliminated in the first few hours were Mel Judah and Martin Drewe. Both players were eliminated in the same hand. The final tablers included Matviy Bilenky, Tony Kociski, Stefan Jedlicka and Andrew Capelin. All of these players took home AUD$7,600.
