Poker Stars needs “Bet Pot” button !

Recently, after spending a year playing on Full Tilt and UltimateBet, I revived my PokerStars account and was shocked to discover that all the problems, which forced me to stop playing there are still intact. My major problems were, generally speaking, speed of dealing hands and absence of “Bet Pot” option. When your multitabling it becomes important.

I wonder if they realize what kind of money they are losing due to the absence of “Bet Pot” button”? Not only do people need to think about an amount they want to bet, they have to type it in or slide the control. No doubt, after the flop people need to do it anyway, but before the flop as raising option, it is convenient and save a lot of time by taking care of limpers. Sure enough, if you an adept of “small ball” strategy you are out of luck and need to type your smaller bet anyway. Which brings an interesting question. Would it be profitable to introduce some sort of customized betting buttons which allow you to predetermine you raise size? For example “Bet 2.5 big blinds”.

Here are some speculative but somewhat realistic calculations about significance of the software speed and presence of ” Bet pot ” button. PokerStars is the largest site around, they routinely have more than 10,000 table running. Lets say that you lose 1 second per hand due to a delay when a raiser types in an amount instead using the button. It is a conservative assessment which compensate for some hands without a raise. So you lose 50 seconds an hour per table (average of 50 hands) which makes it 20 minutes a day for each table. All this translates into staggering 3300 hours of lost time a day for the site. If you deal 50 hands an hour you lose 165,000 hands you could have dealt. If your rake is even 50 cents a hand on average you are losing something like 80,000 dollars a day for one second delay. And it is cool 30 millions a year! Large numbers are funny.. we all should try to sell something to China.
