Poker Bonus: Match And Max
Most people who play online poker know about online poker bonuses. They know that many poker rooms offer a bonus deal and they want to find the biggest bonuses possible, which usually means a 100 percent match bonus that doubles the amount of a deposit.
However, a 100 percent match bonus doesn’t always tell the whole story. It’s important to consider the max as well.
Understanding Match Vs. Max — Match Bonus
Match bonus means what it sounds like. For every dollar you put in, the site gives you a dollar. However, that is only for 100 percent match.
In a 50 percent match situation, for every dollar you put in, the site would give you fifty cents. Clearly, the higher the match percentage is, the better. However, sometimes a lower match percentage can be a bigger deal. This is where max deposits come in.
Understanding Match Vs. Max — Max Deposits
Unfortunately, you can’t deposit unlimited funds to get a full match. This would be expensive for the site if the deposits were abnormally large.
Instead, each bonus comes with a deposit maximum. This means that you cannot deposit more than that amount to receive the bonus.
For example, at fulltilt poker you have a 100 percent match bonus with a $600 maximum on your first deposit; the most bonus money you could get would be $600. You could deposit more than this, but only the first $600 would qualify for the bonus.
Comparing Match and Max
Now that you understand match and max, you know that determining your best bonus will require a little math. A 100 percent match bonus with a $50 maximum deposit is worth no more than $50 bonus dollars to you.
On the other hand, a 50 percent match bonus with a $400 maximum deposit can be worth $200. Even though the percentage is higher for the first one, the second one is better due to the high maximum deposit. This assumes that you are willing and able to deposit the maximum. If you are able to deposit no more than $50 when collecting your bonus, you might as well go with the 100 percent match.
