Saturday, February 25th, 2012 by Nadia

Shuffle Master, a US based manufacturer of casino equipments will buy’s Ongame Network. It has been up for auction for a year, since the merger between Bwin and Party Gaming took place. Bwin purchased the poker network in 2005 for £474 million. The UIGEA was passed after that and reduced the value of Ongame Network. The Black Friday incident of 2011 forced bwin to put the network up for sale. Now, Ongame Network is considered a surplus asset by the company.

Shuffle Master to Buy Ongame for £13 million

After the decrease in value, Ongame Network will most likely be sold to Shuffle Master for £13 million. Ongame is the 6th largest poker network in the world in terms of the number of cash game players using it. The poker network has 2,150 players in a week on an average. It is behind the world’s leading online poker room,, which has 2,250 players. Ongame is ahead of where 2100 players are active in a week. Party Poker, which ranks second in terms of its player traffic in cash games, has 4,750 players on an average in a week.

After its purchase by Shuffle Master, Ongame Network will probably not be as large as it is now. The head poker room of Ongame is Bwin customers are likely to stay with it after the purchase. The other well-known poker room operating under the network is Betfair. Industry watchers are not sure regarding the moves that players at Betfair are likely to make.

Shuffle Master – Best Known for its Advanced Software

One of the best aspects about Shuffle Master is its advanced software. It comes with automated card shufflers. These are installed in poker tables. A division of the company, Shuffle Interactive, offers online poker games on a wide variety of platforms like Facebook, Mac, Android and iOS devices. In a research note, an investment bank, Roth Capital Partners stated that the interactive gaming opportunity provided by Shuffle is under-rated in the industry.

Apart from Shuffle Masters, various other online gambling firms in the US are entering into acquisition deals hoping that online poker will be legalized in the US soon. One such firm is International Gaming Technology, which purchased the Entraction Network last year. However, considering the present scenario in the US, online poker is not likely to be legalized till the end of 2012.

According to reports in the Las Vegas Review Journal, online poker legalization has not been attached to the payroll tax bill. This indicates that the issue is not likely to be considered by the federal government in 2012. However, the possibility of a legalization bill being passed this year cannot be ruled out completely. There are chances of a poker rider getting attached to the job package of the Obama administration.

Ongame Network was established in 1999 under a Swedish company, OnGame., a flagship client was released for accompanying the new network. boasts of having one of the largest player traffic in the industry.
