Heroes and Zeros of Poker
Here is a list of some of my all-time heroes and zeros from the poker world.
My Heroes
Phil Ivey – For winning more than 17 million dollars from Andy Beal in a heads up poker match.
Billy Baxter – For defeating the IRS in the Circuit Court of Appeals in the 1980′s. The court ruled that poker is a game of skill and Baxter could report his winnings as earned income.
I don’t know if this really qualifies for this list…but I’m throwing it in anyway. Pamela Anderson lost a little more than $200K in a poker game to a well known professional poker player. Believe me, I would tell you who it was if I knew, but she wouldn’t say. Rather than collect on the debt, propositions were made… and someone got to make out with Pamela Anderson in exchange for writing off the 1/4 million dollars in debt. So, to that guy…who ever you are, you are my hero. I don’t know why because I would take the 1/4 million instead, but whatever.
Chris Moneymaker is a given for this list because most us wouldn’t still be playing poker if it wasn’t for him.
Zeros
The owners from Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet – For cheating their players
out of millions of dollars by using poker accounts that enabled them to
see other player’s hole cards at the table.
Full Tilt Poker’s support staff – For just sucking all around.
I will have to put out another one of these blog entries when I can think of some more folks to add.
