Worst Ruling in Poker

After I posted the Brandon Cantu hand a week or two ago, I started discussing with a few people what the worst ruling was that I had ever seen at a poker table.

I once heard of a guy who lost all of his chips without even having any cards in front of him. I was playing at the Turning Stone Casino in upstate New York. Sitting next to me was a dealer from the Foxwoods Casino. He proceeded to tell me about a hand that occurred at one of his tables while he was dealing.

The soon-to-be victimized player had folded his cards long ago. He was sitting and telling a story of a poker hand that he was playing at some time in the past. The story went something like this…”blah blah blah, blah blah blah, then I said  I’M ALL IN.”

The problem was that right when he threw in the last line to that story, he heard someone at the table say “I call you” followed by the words “I’m gonna have to go all-in as well”. Needless to say, there was now a problem at the table.

This guys actions had clearly affected the table because the third guy got priced into his draw and decided to go all-in. The poker room manager came over and made the following statement. “If a player’s words or actions cause action in a hand, that player will be held liable for that action.”

Basically what this meant was that the guy had to put his money into the pot without any chance to get it back. Apparently this didn’t make him very happy from what I understand.

I thought this was probably one of the strangest rulings that I had ever heard. In the years since I heard about this, I have never found anyone who has heard of something similar. I even considered the possibility that this guy was just a drunk, but I’m confident enough to post this story on here.

I don’t suppose we have anyone from the Foxwoods poker room that reads this blog?
