Poker Sites to Avoid
Insider Cheating at UB/AP
The worst scenario that a poker player can encounter is an instance where the poker site itself is cheating the players. This was the case with Absolute Poker/Ultimate Bet. It is still a little bit shady what happened, but its been admitted that employees of UB/AP gained access to an account which could see other players’ cards at the table.
It wasn’t until the poker community became suspicious and started investigating hand histories etc. that the scam was uncovered.
The good news is that this can’t happen at any of the larger poker rooms that you’ll see listed here on my website. The employees at UB/AP had access to a restricted security account that was used to check the software. These types of accounts were never created, and do not exist at any of the other sites.
This isn’t the only shady thing to happen at UB/AP. There have been documented instances where a player, in 1 case, Ub/APs advertising face; Phil Hellmuth… was shipped a pot when he had the losing hand.
It seems like very little has been done to reconcile the reputation of this network, so they have earned themselves the number one spot on my list of shady poker sites.
More Poker Sites to Avoid
In general, it’s a good idea to try and avoid some of the brand new poker sites who are trying to attract players by offering huge promotions and bonus deals. If their product is not attractive to players and able to sustain it’s success, the poker site will likely go broke. This has happened to countless sites that have popped up in the last five years.
There are a few great new sites that have come out recently. Aced.com is a site that you will see listed here at Big Edge and they are fairly new, but they have a great site and the owners are committed to it’s success. You don’t need to worry about a site like this disappearing with your money. Check out all of my poker site reviews here; Poker Site Reviews.
What are some of the small sites to avoid? Well i can give you a hint, you won’t find any of them advertised on my website. I’d rather not go calling most of them out, the majority of shady poker sites went out of business a long time ago with the exception of UB/AP which has since become the Cereus network.
Which Sites to Play On
I play at all of the sites listed around here on my website. I’ve played at somewhere around 20 different poker sites since I started playing online several years ago. I’ve even gotten burned before and lost some money, so now I don’t deposit my money onto any poker site that I don’t trust. The sites listed around Big Edge Poker are reputable and reliable. Sites Like Full Tilt Poker have annual profits in the billions of dollars, so they do everything that they can to uphold their reputation. There are players with millions of dollars sitting in their poker accounts, and very few legitimate players have ever had an issue with their money while it was on one of these sites.
