Folding the Best Hand is a Small Mistake
Folding the best hand before the flop is a small mistake compared to some of the other things that you can do wrong in poker. This might not even cost you any chips in some scenarios. However, if you call someone down all the way to the river with the worst hand, this might cost you your entire chip stack. This means that there is no shame in folding a hand that had a slight advantage over someone else before the flop. This is especially the case when you have very few chips invested, and plenty of chips in your stack.
Avoid weak starting hands in early position.
When a player is out of position it is more likely that they will lose money if they are beat, and less likely that they will win money if they are ahead.
Experiment with different playing styles and different levels of aggressiveness
The table will react to you in different ways depending upon how you decide to play. This will have an effect on the way you need to approach certain scenarios. For example, an aggressive player will have a harder time trying to bluff his opponents than a passive player will. Here are a few bluffs that you can experiment with at the poker table; Poker Bluff Playbook.
Remain patient
Internet poker players tend to be a lot more aggressive than the players in your average home game. Since it can be harder to determine if your opponents are bluffing on the internet, it is sometimes best to wait for a quality hand.
