How to Approach WSOP Satellite Tournaments

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

Many poker players share the common goal of traveling to Las Vegas, Nevada to play in the World Series of Poker Main Event. But for the vast majority of these players their dream will remain just that, a dream, as they cannot afford the expensive traveling costs and the actual $10,000 needed to enter.

However, in the months leading up to the WSOP many sites offer satellites into the Main Event meaning you can actually win a $10,000 seat and … Read the rest

Patrick Antonius Turned Away From WSOP Main Event

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Apparently almost everyone decided that they wanted to wait until day 1D to buy into the main event at the 2009 WSOP. The only problem was that the day was capped at 3,000 entrants. As a result, Patrick Antonius was turned away from the main event.

Patrick Antonius isn’t the only well known poker player who didn’t get into the event. Shannon Elizabeth has also reportedly been turned away from the WSOP due to capacity.

I’m not sure if any … Read the rest

Some WSOP Predictions

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

I’ve been getting a glimpse into what the WSOP coverage will entail this year through everyone’s twitter updates. I saw that Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson and some other players had some sort of Jeopardy event scheduled with Norman Chad.

I also heard that they had a dunk booth set up at the WSOP for Norm. It sounds like another year filled with bad ex-wife jokes to me. I was holding out some hope that ESPN would get a third announcer this … Read the rest

I was just sitting wondering if there is anyone who isn’t playing at the WSOP this year… Apparently I am the only one because it looks like even Joan Rivers is making an appearance. You can still qualify for the main event on Full Tilt Poker.

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Harrah’s released the 2009 WSOP poker schedule. The wait is over, and the big news is that we will be waiting until the middle of November again for the Main event Champion to be declared. ESPN and Harrah’s have decided to hold the final table in November to create another publicity machine they called the”November Nine”.

While ESPN’s TV ratings went up and hundreds of fans slept outside the Penn & Teller Theater to watch the live event, many poker … Read the rest

What a Turrable Turnament

Friday, November 14th, 2008

I don’t know what to say, one of my horses made it to the top 3 as I predicted (Dennis Phillips), although he played pretty bad in my opinion.

I’m glad Chris already wrote something up for our blog about the final table, because it gets me off the hook from having to say something informative about the actual results. I’ll sum it up for you right here…it doesn’t matter who wins, because we’re all losers. Well, not really, but … Read the rest

Main Event Final Table Predictions

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

I know that a lot of people were very critical of ESPN and Harrah’s when they changed the format of the This year’s WSOP final table. I felt like there was not enough hype and promotion for the final table, but I have to admit that I like the changes that they made. I can’t deny that I have been tuning in every Tuesday night to watch the new episodes.

Maybe they should change a few things still, but the … Read the rest

WSOP Main Event Final Table Is Set

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

The main event resumed today at the Rio with 27 players left. Among the first well-known players to be eliminated today was Phi Nguyen in 26th place. Brandon Cantu, my pick to win the tournament, was eliminated a few hours later in 20th place. While holding 9-9 against Peter Eastgate’s  A-Q, Eastgate was able to make a flush after 4 diamonds fell on the board. This eliminated Cantu in 20th place for just over $257K .

Not long after Cantu … Read the rest

WSOP Main Event down to 27 players

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

This year’s main event is down to 27 players. Many big name players were able to go deep in the tournament this year but were unable to make the final 3 tables. For a short period of time the producers at ESPN were drooling over the possibility of having both Mike Matusow and Phil Hellmuth at the final table. Neither of these guys were able to survive to move onto day 7.

The most popular player left in the main … Read the rest

Pre-Day 7 Notes About the Main Event

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

It looks like ESPN is starting to show that they are trying to step their coverage up this year. Just a few minutes ago I saw a few interviews on ESPN2 with Mike Matusow and Phil Hellmuth, also an update from Ali Nejad. I wouldn’t mind seeing Ali doing the main event commentary in the years to come. Congrats to Ali for landing a job with ESPN!

In the past years the network would have to do these updates at … Read the rest

Winners and Losers in the 2008 WSOP

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

After watching the WSOP on ESPN, I was rather disappointed with their production values. For the most part all ESPN showed were brutal beats and crazy suckouts. Where were the bold bluffs> Where were the huge make or break calls? Where was the sophisticated moves that we always hear about? I saw very little of what makes poker fun. The game within the game type of stuff. Sure it’s entertainment and ESPN is probably doing this for the casual viewer … Read the rest
